1 Enoch 46:7

In 1 translation

1En-Charles
And these are they who †judge† the stars of heaven, [And raise their hands against the Most High], †And tread upon the earth and dwell upon it†. And all their deeds manifest unrighteousness, And their power rests upon their riches, And their faith is in the gods which they have made with their hands, And they deny the name of the Lord of Spirits, here = the righteous, as in Dan. viii. 10.This verse is an echo of Dan. viii. 10. We may reconstruct it thus: 'And these are they who cast down the stars of heaven and tread to the earth those who dwell upon it.' We require a distich here, and the title 'Most High' does not occur elsewhere in the Parables.Cf. 'stamped upon them' in Dan. viii. 10. So read 'to the earth'.A strong expression for the idolatrous tendencies of the Sadducean court. See xxxviii. 5 (note).
